don’t let uneven skintone disrupt your glow

what does fitzpatrick look like for you?

With each Fitzpatrick type, the common physical characteristics have common reactions. Here are common skin conditions and concerns for each type:

⚡️Fitzpatrick types I & II - redness and/or sensitivity

⚡️Fitzpatrick types III & IV - discoloration

⚡️Fitzpatrick types V & VI - scarring and discoloration

For some with Fitzpatrick 4-6, darker and melanin-rich skin experiences skin conditions and in-clinic treatments differently. This may show up as hyperpigmentation, eczema, acne, dark spots, and uneven skin tone.

many clients come to me with these common complaints:

“I’ve tried everything for it and nothing works for me.”

“I’ve spent tons of money and still haven’t got the transformation I hoped for.”

“I invested in a treatment and it actually got WORSE.”

When it comes to battling common skin issues like acne, scarring, melasma, and hyperpigmentation, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. There are tons of products on the market that promise to lighten and even erase the appearance of dark spots on the skin caused by inflammation or injury,Clearing up pigmentation issues within. in patients with higher Fitzpatrick skin it can be challenging because all products and methods aren’t necessarily created with melanin in mind.

it’s no secret that living with an uneven skin tone can be hard

Many treatment options are available, but women of color must be careful and rely on qualified healthcare professionals who are experienced in treating dark skin tones.

Characteristics of these conditions are based on how the skin responds to trauma.

As a protective mechanism, the skin will hyperproduce scar tissue or melanin to prevent further damage to the underlying skin.

This over-production can result in puffy, thick scars and excess accumulated pigment on the skin's surface.

As an expert, this is a battle I don’t want you to struggle with alone. I’ve helped hundreds of people struggling with melasma live everyday lives and regain confidence.

so, how do we treat?

There are two main ways Balance Skin + Wellness treats uneven skin tone:

Topical, Physical Blocking Sunscreen Agents Containing Zinc Oxide Or Titanium Dioxide.

Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are natural minerals that sit on the skin and work by reflecting, scattering, and absorbing UV rays. They are also known as “physical barriers,” meaning they don't enter the skin, contrary to their chemical counterparts.

Medical-Grade Peels, Laser Options, And Other Advanced In-Office Treatments.

Chemical peels cause intentional damage to the epidermis and/or dermis to stimulate new tissue to improve skin texture and tone.

but like most things, there’s never truly a “one and done” solution

My approach is to create a long-term maintenance and treatment plan with you, so you are educated on the long-term protection of your skin investment while ensuring you’re using top-notch products with the safest, most effective ingredients.

This is a result of injury or inflammation of the skin. A common cause of this type is acne.

Inflammation

Hormonal changes within the body can appear in any area of the body, but they occur most commonly on the stomach and face.

Hormones

For individuals with darker skin tones, excess pigment production leading to hyperpigmentation can occur relatively quickly because of the higher concentration of melanin within the skin.

Genetics

Pollutants like smog, dirt, and dust are released into the air through factories, construction activities, and more. These pollutants do not just sit on your skin – they are tiny particles that enter the deeper layers of the epidermis (skin’s outer layer) through pores to damage your skin from within, too possible.

Pollution

They are related to excess sun exposure over time. Generally, they appear as spots on areas exposed to the sun, like the hands and face.
